Michelle Comerford is Industrial & Supply Chain Practice Leader and Project Director for Biggins Lacy Shapiro & Co. (BLS & Co), which specializes in site selection, location economics, and incentives negotiation for corporate clients. Prior to joining BLS & Co., Michelle was with design-build firm The Austin Company for nearly a decade as part of Austin Consulting, the site selection consulting practice within the company, including three years as Managing Director of the group. Her previous experience also includes industrial real estate brokerage at The Staubach Company and transportation management at a national trucking company.
In her tenure, Michelle has directed clients in evaluating supply chain logistics, location strategy, and community/site selection alternatives, as well as due diligence, property acquisition, and other aspects of project implementation. Selected clients include Avon Products, Bimbo Bakeries, Colgate Palmolive, Celebration Foods, Fanatics, and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
Drawing on her site selection expertise and experience, Michelle has also advised numerous economic development organizations on their competitiveness and readiness for business attraction, including site certification projects. Michelle led the Austin Consulting team in the development of the state-wide shovel ready site certification program for the State of Tennessee, known as Select Tennessee Certified Sites.
Michelle has been a featured speaker at a number of economic development events and is also a frequent contributor to industry specific publications including Area Development Magazine, Site Selection Magazine, Site Net Dispatch, and Chief Executive.Net.
Michelle is also a member of the Site Selectors Guild, the only association of the world’s foremost site selection consultants, where she serves as a member of the Board of Directors and as Secretary. In 2012, Michelle was named one of Cleveland Crain’s Business Magazine Top Forty Under 40. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Marketing and Logistics from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio.
