Ulrich Schmidt is a Managing Director in KPMG LLP’s Global Location and Expansion Services (GLES) practice, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has over 18 years of experience in working with global businesses on location analysis, site selection, multi-state tax issues, and business incentives. After completing his post-secondary education in Germany, Ulrich began his career at a multi-state utility company, focusing on attracting foreign-based companies to the United States. He joined KPMG’s GLES practice in 2000. Ulrich works with companies on the entire business process, from developing location strategies and service delivery models, site assessments, incentives negotiation and structuring for new and existing company investments.
Ulrich focuses on developing and managing global location strategies and work streams for a broad spectrum of clients, including life sciences, financial services, consumer markets, IT, and manufacturing industries. He implements comprehensive location delivery models and location rationalization strategies to leverage existing facilities and to support companies’ business case requirements.
Ulrich provides location and site analysis globally, including locations in the U.S., LATAM, EMEA, and APAC. He assists clients with assessing location factors including labor availability and quality, taxes, utilities, and other costs and has developed tax and other comparative cost models to evaluate site options and viabilities. Ulrich has secured business incentive packages for clients consisting of tax credits, grants, training assistance, financing programs, infrastructure assistance, property tax abatements and exemptions.
Ulrich obtained a Masters’ degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Frankfurt in Germany.
