Charleston, SC,— The Site Selectors Guild (SSG), the world’s largest group of senior site location advisors, honored the Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA) with the 2017 Excellence in Economic Development Award at its annual conference, March 15, 2017.
Winning professionals and economic development organizations (EDOs) are nominated by SSG members and are selected based on mastery of process; ingenuity and creativity; going above and beyond; political acumen; staying power; and personal, caring touch.
“We recognize the top performers in economic development,” said SSG Board Chairman Mark Williams. “They are indispensable partners of the Guild and their outstanding efforts deserve to be celebrated.”
When Thorne Research, an FDA food grade nutritional supplements manufacturer, selected CRDA for its new facility, manufacturing plan and state-of-the-art R&D operation, CRDA took on the project despite not being a life-science hub. The team worked hard to not only gain industry knowledge, but also discover untapped resources around the state to help the project run flawlessly.
“The CRDA helps teach a valuable lesson that just because a project isn’t in your wheelhouse, that doesn’t mean it won’t be a good fit,” said SSG Member Will Hearn, who nominated them for this award. “Part of what makes a company confident in a region is the ability of local leadership to leverage all of its local resources to benefit a new company. That is what set the CRDA team apart in this project.”
The Excellence in Economic Development Awards were created to promote positive interactions between site selection professionals and EDOs, to encourage innovation by highlighting EDO best practices, and to introduce and advance high standards for the site selector profession.
